Research of Igor Mordatch from OpenAI focuses on attempts to get the bots to develop their own language in a limited universe. Facebook Catches Two Chatbots Speaking Their Own Language

Facebook did develop two AI-powered chatbots to see if they could learn how to negotiate. During the process, the bots formed a derived shorthand that allowed them to communicate faster. But this happened in 2017, not recently, and Facebook didn’t shut the bots down – the researchers simply directed them to prioritize correct English usage. Concerned artificial intelligence researchers hurriedly abandoned an experimental chatbot program after they realized that the bots were inventing their own language. Cleverbot, an artificial intelligence program, was designed by Rollo Carpenter to emulate and engage in conversation with humans.

“I can can i i everything else,” one of the bots, dubbed Bob, was caught saying, according to The Next Web tech site.

Both bots were pulled after a brief period, after which the conversational agents appeared to be much less interested in advancing potentially problematic opinions. The Monkey chatbot might lack a little of the charm of its television counterpart, but the bot is surprisingly good at responding accurately to user input. Monkey responded to user questions, and can also send users a daily joke at a time of their choosing and make donations to Red Nose Day at the same time.

Organizations increasingly use chatbot-based virtual assistants to handle simple tasks, allowing human agents to focus on other responsibilities. Chatbots have varying levels of complexity, being either stateless or stateful. Stateless chatbots approach each conversation as if interacting with a new user.
